Several months ago, our team visited the customer’s cable factory and gained a direct understanding of their production environment. At the Shanghai Wire & Cable Exhibition, we had another opportunity to sit down with the customer and continue the project discussion.

This time, the conversation focused more specifically on cable armoring equipment. Our team reviewed the customer’s requirements, discussed the application of the machine, and exchanged ideas about suitable configurations.

Because both sides had already established communication during the previous factory visit, the exhibition meeting could move directly into more detailed technical topics.

This continuity made the discussion more efficient and helped both teams better understand the next steps of the project.

Why Cable Armoring Equipment Matters

A cable armoring machine adds a protective metallic layer around a cable. Cable manufacturers use armoring when the finished cable must withstand higher mechanical stress, crushing force, tension, or demanding installation environments.

Depending on the cable design, manufacturers may use:

Choosing a cable armoring machine involves much more than selecting a machine size.

During our exhibition meeting, we discussed the project from the perspective of real cable production. Important factors include cable diameter, armor wire specification, number of wires, laying pitch, reel size, line speed, and production capacity.

For wire armoring applications, the machine must maintain stable tension on each armor wire while producing a consistent armor layer around the cable. Good tension control helps improve armor uniformity and reduces problems during high-speed production.

The machine must also work smoothly with the customer’s upstream and downstream equipment.

Different Cable Armoring Solutions for Different Products

Cable factories manufacture a wide range of armored cable structures, so one armoring solution cannot fit every project.

For example, manufacturers may choose a rigid frame armoring machine when they need stable production for larger cable structures and multiple armor wires. A cage-type armoring machine can also support various wire armoring processes depending on the cable design and production target.

Tape armoring requires a different machine configuration because the process wraps metallic tape around the cable instead of applying individual armor wires.
